Captain Art's thought for the day - fisherman ethics disappearing?

Sing to the tune of "Oh where, oh where has my little dog gone":

Oh where, oh where has the ethical fisherman gone, oh where oh where can he be??????

I don't wish to say how old I'm getting to be but it's pretty old & I have been fishing for a long, long time. Having just finished our long steelhead trout season here in Northeastern Ohio I've come to realize we're loosing things which I was taught when I was a child - fishing ethics!

I can recall the days when as a child I would be all cranked up as we traveled to our favorite fishing spot on a certain lake. I would visualize how the fish may be biting and be so excited I could hardly wait for my dad to get us there. Then suddenly my excitement would lead to disappointment as we neared that favorite fishing spot only to find out someone had got there first.

What did we do?......croud the other group out....cast over their lines.....no! We simply went to another spot. This is one of the things about fishing which I was taught at a young age & passed on to my children. Simply put.....ethics! What is right & what is wrong, simple.

A vast majority of anglers out there should learn a little for themselves. I see a lack of morals so often during our steelhead trout season......miles of rivers & if you happen to be standing somewhere someone else seems they have to be there also. It even happens while fishing on the LUCKY STRIKE offshore in open water. Learn a little manners & morals.....pass them on to a child & you have made an additional step in making the world a better place.

In the meantime if you may be interested in Lake Erie fishing charters visit our new web at:

Until then, good friends, calm seas and great fishing........God Bless America, Captain Art
